Smoking Controls Your LIfe

Do you smoke?

Have you ever calculated how much of your day goes up in smoke, because of your habit’?    Smoking controls your life.  If you are not smoking, you are thinking about smoking or buying cigarettes or ?  And you really feel as if you have no control over it, don’t you?   You aren’t alone.   I have heard these words from so many smokers before they joined our group of happy permanent non-smokers who took back control of their lives.

Smoking and Safety

You and I know, smoking is not good for you.  It will eventually kill you.  But still about 30% of the population smoke.   Why?  Because, believe it or not,  being a smoker makes us feel safe.  Now that is just weird.  Let me explain.   I have helped over 6000 people stop smoking over the past 15 years or so.   One of my first questions to clients who come to see me is:  Why did you start to smoke?  and How old were you?

In 95% of cases:  the age is between 14 and 18 years of age.  The reason: because my mates smoked – or some similar reason. Our survival instincts kick in when we are threatened Now in our ‘reptilian brain’ the one that developed when we were hunters and gatherers and chased dinosaurs for a living, human beings developed a very strong need to belong.  Belonging today is still our Number 1 need.  Belonging, inclusion, being a part of a group ensures our safety.  Safety in numbers.   Smokers, unconsciously, feel fear when they try to quit smoking (leave the group) and the other group members feel vulnerable.  This is why when a smoker quits, his mates will share their cigarettes.    This is why giving up smoking is feels so difficult.  Couple this with the cigarette companies advertising campaign that smoking is addictive and impossible to give up and mentally it becomes hard.

Giving up smoking

Stopping smoking and giving up cigarettes for good can be easy.  Two things you need.  First:  You must want to quit cigarettes for good.  Second, Use a process with a proven record of success.  Lots of people have stopped smoking cigarettes by going ‘cold turkey!’  More have tried and failed.  Many have tried pills, potions, patches, and other pharmaceuticals – these also work but the side effects can have a really negative effect on many.  Hypnosis and acupuncture are both new age therapies that get amazing results.   Do some investigation for yourself.  You may find one of these is the best solution for you.
